D. Denenge Duyst-Akpem is a space sculptor whose visual art, writing, performance, and teaching bridge disciplines of site-specific, ritual, interior design, and Afro-Futurism. Duyst-Akpem is Adjunct Assistant Professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the Department of Art History, Theory, and Criticism and Low-Residency MFA Program; CAPX faculty advisor; and founder of Denenge Design. Exhibition and performance venues include: Library of Congress, Schomburg Center, Arts Club of Chicago, MCA, Red Bull Arts NY. Interviews, articles, and features include: ArtNews, Newsweek, Sixty, How We Get To Next, Theaster Gates: How To Build a House Museum, plus three upcoming book projects. She received a Marion Kryczka Excellence in Teaching Award; Teaching Award for Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion; and NEH Fellowship. Her MFA is from SAIC, BA from Smith College.
