The Walter Marshall Clute
Memorial Studio and Gallery
As a co-founder of Ox-Bow, Walter Marshall Clute had much of the responsibility for running the school. Frederick Fursman conducted most of the classes, while Clute took on the administrative functions. Clute died in April 1915, and much of his story as a co-founder of the school has been lost.
The Walter Marshall Clute Memorial Studio and Gallery was built in the 1920s and dedicated in 1928. This studio is now used for courses in papermaking, artist’s books, and sculpture.
