The coast of Maine boasts some of the best seafood in the country. Michigan also provides the most amazing freshwater fish from our lakes and streams. Maine native Sue Chaitin and now Saugatuck/Douglas local and owner of the Mermaid Bar and grill will demonstrate several seafood and fish dishes from Maine to Michigan. In this demonstration-style class you can expect to learn and be entertained as Sue cooks up a storm. Each dish will be presented in front of you with generous sample portions and a perfectly paired beer or wine. There will be plenty of time for Q+A and participation if you choose. An example of the following dishes will be prepared: Lobster Gnocchi with Brown Butter Sage Sauce, Mussels Provencal, Citrus Ceviche with Baby Scallops, Cedar Planked Salmon.


Sue Chaitin grew up in the State of Maine and moved to Michigan over 30 years ago. She developed a love for the culinary arts and began a career as a personal chef in 2001. Over the years she honed her skills and also began a cooking school and her own consulting business called “Sue Chef”. A cookbook, television show and spice line followed. Now Sue and her husband Eric Chaitin are the owners of several successful restaurants starting with the Ottawa Beach Inn in Holland, Matchbox Dinner and Drinks in Grand Rapids and the Mermaid Bar and Grill right here in Saugatuck.
