This is a beginning letterpress workshop where you will learn to print your own unique letterpress prints. Ranging from stationary to limited edition hand printed books letterpress has a wide application. In this course you will learn basics of letterpress including type drawer layout, setting movable type, locking a type-form together, mixing ink, and printing on a relief-press. This course is intended for individuals who have little to no experience in letterpress.
Steven Rainey is the exhibitions preparator at the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts in Grand Rapids, Michigan and is the co-owner/operator of Dinderbeck Studios, a community printshop and learning center. Steven completed his MFA in printmaking at Kendall College of Art and Design in 2014. He exhibits his work nationally and has participated in a variety of residencies that include The Frans Masereel Centrum in Kasterlee, Belgium and Cabin-Time in Green River, Utah. Anthony Mead is an artist and printmaker currently living and working in Phoenix, Arizona. In 2019, Mead completed his MFA at Arizona State University. In 2010, he co-founded Dinderbeck, a community artist studio, in Grand Rapids, MI. He has exhibited nationally and internationally, lectured at museums and national conferences, and taught classes at Kendall College of Art and Design and Arizona State University. Mead’s work focuses on the human/ecological relationships related to fire through human origins, societal development, and fire identity as a means understand ourselves, global impact, and responsibility related to fires’ transformative properties.
