MFA Residencies
Ox-Bow will offer 3 three-week residencies to MFA candidates from schools around the nation. Students may apply as individuals or as pairs to live and work on campus on a project of their design. Applicants will receive one studio space, as well as housing for the duration of their stay (if applying as a pair, applicants will share a studio, as well as housing). Access to classroom studios and studio equipment is not guaranteed. Students should submit proposals to create work that is not dependent on studio access.
These three-week residencies are designed for graduate students who may not need the formal instruction provided by Ox-Bow’s traditional class structure. Graduate Residents should be self-directed in both envisioning their projects as well as executing them, though they will have access to critiques with faculty, Visiting Artists, and Ox-Bow’s Resident Academic Director, Michael Andrews. Community interaction plays a large role in life at Ox-Bow, therefore proposals that engage the overall community will be given preference. All residents should be prepared to give a lecture to the general community on their work, as well as on the progress of their project.
Ox-Bow is a learning institution dedicated to experimentation and the artistic process. Applicants should not feel obligated to tailor their projects to fit within Ox-Bow’s traditional course offerings. However, as Ox-Bow has limited technological and equipment resources, applicants should touch on equipment needs and plans on how those needs might be addressed in their application essays.
Deadline: April 6, 2012
Cost: $500 per 3-week residency for one artist; $800 for two artists, (includes room and board and studio), due at the time the residency is awarded.
