Credit Courses

Payment in full of all tuition, fees, and room and board is required at the time of registration, except for SAIC degree-seeking students, who will be billed later through SAIC.

Checks and money orders for credit courses should be made payable to The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC).

Credit card payments for credit tuition should be made through SAIC’s payment Service, CASHNET. Students who are taking courses for credit, but who are not affiliated with the School of the Art Institute of Chicago will receive a student id number as well as instructions on how to process a credit card payment at the time of registration. All payments must be made with in 48 hours of registration.

Non-Credit Courses

Payment in full of all tuition, fees, and room and board is required at the time of registration. Non-credit courses may be paid for by credit card, check, or money order. Ox-Bow accepts Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. All checks and money orders should be made payable to Ox-Bow.

Refund Policy

Drop fees and Refund Policy


New Ox-Bow Refund Policy: Please read carefully.

To drop a course, students must submit the request in writing to the Ox-Bow registrar. Call 800.318.3019 for more information. The following drop fees will be assessed dependent on when you drop your course:

From the first day of registration until 4:30 pm on May 1: Students will receive a full refund minus a $100 drop fee.

If you drop after May 1 until 3 weeks prior to your first day of class: Students will receive a full refund minus $250 drop fee and any associated lab fee.

If you drop within 3 weeks of the start date of your class: No refunds will be given.

All drops are eligible to be contested through a refund review. To be considered for a refund, please contact the Ox-Bow registrar at 800.318.3019. Documentation may be required to receive a refund.

Additional Fees

  • Single Room Fee: A limited number of single rooms are available for an extra charge of $100 per week on a first-come, first-served basis. This fee is not charged until the availability of a single room can be confirmed, which is usually upon arrival at Ox-Bow.
  • Lab Fees: Lab fees are listed with course descriptions. Lab fees cover the cost of essential class materials supplied by Ox-Bow, including fuel costs (if applicable), and costs of maintaining the studios. Lab fees are due at the time of registration.

**Please note that the lab fee structure for all METALS courses has been changed. Upon registration students will be charged a $50-$100 fee (for one and two-week classes respectively) to cover the costs of consumables such as gas and other studio overhead in the class. The lab fee will no longer include the cost of materials, such as steel, iron, bronze, aluminum, or silver, etc. All students will be charged a fee based upon how much material is used to complete all projects based on the weight of the metal and the fair market value of that material. Materials fees should be paid by the student on campus at the end of the class. Ox-Bow will inform each student of an estimate of materials costs in the supply list for each class. Prices will be posted in the studio when students arrive.
