In 2006, Ox-Bow completed a major renovation of a portion of our 19th-century Inn. The main body of the original building still stands as rustic and as charming as it always has, with rooms on the 2nd floor. The new Burke Inn Addition is home to Ox-Bow’s new kitchen, and cozy dining room, complete with a fieldstone fireplace. The 2nd floor of the Burke Inn Addition houses 12 new bedrooms, and 3 new baths. The first floor in the new wing also houses 2 ADA compliant bedrooms, the Ox-Bow Office, and a breezeway that connects to the original building. Ox-Bow’s new slide lecture room completes the new wing, with a quiet, dark space to accommodate movies, slides, and digital projections. The original building still houses the Student Services Office, the Ox-Shop, a gallery space, the original dining room, and Ox-Bow’s relaxing porches, equipped with cozy hanging swings and festive chairs for meetings and resting.
Ox-Bow provides shared housing, with limited opportunities for single rooms. Single rooms are available on a first come first served basis, and for an additional fee. Singles are available at no additional costs for those with accessibility issues. Roommates are paired according to gender, age, and, as much as possible, special requests. Rooms are neither heated nor air-conditioned, so students should bring appropriate bedding/clothing for summer days and nights that can range from cool to hot and humid throughout the summer months. Detailed information regarding accommodations and recommended items to bring are provided in the Ox-Bow Orientation Guide distributed to students within a few weeks after registration for an Ox-Bow class. Not all Ox-Bow participants reside at Ox-Bow. Commuting is an option for local residents and students who wish to make other housing arrangements. We welcome students who live close enough to Ox-Bow to commute, or choose accommodations off-campus, a variety of which (motels, hotels, bed-and breakfast inns) are located in and around Saugatuck and Douglas. Both towns are about three miles from Ox-Bow and are accessible from Ox-Bow by car or via a ferry that leaves from downtown Saugatuck. Visit www.saugatuck.com or call the Saugatuck Visitors Bureau at 269.857.1701 for comprehensive information on lodging in the area.
Please indicate on your registration form if you are commuting to Ox-Bow or staying on campus. Meal plans are available for commuting students, and may be purchased on the Ox-Bow campus during Sunday check-in.
