Ox-Bow offers a variety of scholarships for students taking credit or non-credit classes. Application procedures and requirements are described below. As most scholarship deadlines fall before class registration starts, students who are awarded scholarships are responsible for registering for Ox-Bow classes. Please see below for the full description, list of qualifications, applications for each scholarship.
Students may submit one set of application materials to apply for The Baron, Liebert , Zanzi, Merit, Grellner, Fursman, and Uretz Scholarships, as well as the Ox-Bow Fellowship. The Tews, Metternich, Barna, Johnson, Smith, and West Michigan Scholarships all require separate applications and materials. All scholarships are partial scholarships and vary in award amount.

WORK SCHOLARSHIPS
For any student taking an Ox-Bow course. Credit and non-credit courses. No deadline; apply at time of class registration; first-come, first-served. Work Scholarships are not available to students enrolled in glass courses or the Pre-College Program.
Work scholarships are awarded by Ox-Bow on a first-come, first-served basis, and there are a limited number of scholarship positions available per course. Work scholarship students receive an award in exchange for working approximately 15 hours per week during their class session at Ox-Bow. Duties include housekeeping, building and grounds maintenance, and dishwashing. Award amounts are listed under Tuition and Fees.
Interested students should apply at the time of registration for classes indicating interest on the Registration Form.
SAIC FINANCIAL AID
For SAIC undergraduate and graduate students.
Credit courses only.
Please contact the SAIC Financial Aid Office for deadlines. Undergraduate and graduate students from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago may be able to use their financial aid award from SAIC toward credit tuition for courses at Ox-Bow. Financial aid typically does not cover room & board or lab fees at Ox-Bow.

NEW! VI FOGLE URETZ SCHOLARSHIP
For undergraduate and graduate students from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Deadline: Friday, February 29, 2008.
Vi Fogle Uretz was a painter, illustrator, and graphic designer, who attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Vi spent time at Ox-Bow as a student, and returned to campus later in her life. Because of her fond memories of Ox-Bow, her family established this scholarship fund in her memory when she passed away in 2007.

This scholarship honors George Liebert, artist and SAIC Faculty Member, who served as Ox-Bow's Resident Director and Associate Program Director for 15 years until 2003.

THE THOMAS BARON SCHOLARSHIP FUND FOR PRINTMAKING, PAINTING, AND DRAWING
For full-time degree-seeking graduate and junior and senior level undergraduate students from ANY school registering for print, painting or drawing courses at Ox-Bow.
Credit or non-credit courses.
Deadline: Friday, February 29, 2008.
Established by teacher and Print collector, Tom Baron, this scholarship fund allows Ox-Bow to award two $1000 scholarships to students taking a Printmaking class, and two $1000 scholarships to students taking either a course in painting or drawing at Ox-Bow. Preference will be awarded to students who are enrolled in a works on paper program at their home institution.

MERIT SCHOLARSHIP

LALLA ANNE CRITZ ZANZI SCHOLARSHIP
For female SAIC undergraduate and graduate students only.
Credit courses only.

This scholarship is awarded to a female undergraduate or graduate student from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, preferably a landscape painter. Students working in an impressionist style are encouraged to apply. This partial scholarship can be used toward tuition for a credit course only. The award recipient is responsible for registering for class.

WEST MICHIGAN SCHOLARSHIP
For students residing within the 269, 616, and 231 area codes of Western Michigan.
Non-credit courses only.

Please note that if you are applying for the West Michigan Scholarship in addition to other scholarships, you must submit an individual application for the West Michigan.
Funded by the Auxiliary Board of Ox-Bow, these awards partially cover non-credit tuition, room and board, and lab fees for a one- or two-week course. The amount of the award varies depending on the course and residence option indicated. Any student selected for the award who chooses to register for credit must pay the difference between credit and non-credit tuition. Award recipients are responsible for registering for class.

ROBERT AND GENEVIEVE JOHNSON CHICAGO PUBLIC SCHOOLS ART TEACHER SCHOLARSHIP
For full-time art teachers in the Chicago Public School system.
One-week, non-credit only.
Deadline: Friday, February 29, 2008.
This scholarship is available to Chicago Public Schools art teachers and is awarded to 5 teachers on the basis of letters of intent and resumes, with preference given to teaching seniority. The scholarship covers noncredit tuition and room and board for a one-week course at Ox-Bow. Any teacher selected for the award who chooses to register for credit must pay the difference between credit and non-credit tuition. Award recipients are responsible for registering for class.

For degree-seeking student from any college or university with demonstrated financial need, who would be unable to attend Ox-Bow without the support of this scholarship.

HERB AND KAREN TEWS SCHOLARSHIP
Thanks to the generosity of Herb and Karen Tews, Ox-Bow will disseminate $10,000 in scholarships to students attending Ox-Bow. Junior and senior high school students interested in participating in the pre college program, K-12 Teachers interested in courses or being an Artist in Residence (please note that there is an additional application for Artists' in Residence), and exemplary students from art schools and art departments from throughout the country are eligible to apply for these funds.

GRELLNER SCHOLARSHIP
Thanks to a generous bequest of Loretta Grellner, Ox-Bow is pleased to offer scholarships to mature women pursuing careers in art. Loretta Grellner was a faculty member at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago who had a close association and a significant fondness for Ox-Bow and the unique opportunities that are provided to artists there. Grellner served as the Director of Ox-Bow in the 1960s and saw its potential for inspiring artists first hand. When she passed away in 2002, Grellner bequeathed a fund to help an underrepresented group have access to this inspiration. We are pleased to offer funding to an older woman interested in pursuing a career in art.

DALE METTERNICH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
For any degree-seeking student taking a course for credit or non-credit and Artists in Residence.

Thanks to a generous bequest by Dale Metternich, Ox-Bow is pleased to offer additional scholarship opportunities in his name. Dale was a well-known furniture and interior designer who served on Ox-Bow's Auxiliary Board and deeply supported Ox-Bow's mission. Upon his death, Ox-Bow was the recipient of Stags Leap, Dale's remarkable estate. The home has been sold and a portion of the proceeds have endowed this scholarship fund.

For Degree-Seeking students from SAIC enrolled in the Painting and Drawing Program,

This partial scholarship is funded by the Frederick Fursman Society, in honor of one of Ox-Bow's founders-Frederick Frary Fursman.

GRACE AND WALTER BYRON SMITH SCHOLARSHIP
For any student who has attended a Catholic college or parochial high school in the state of Illinois for at least one full year.
Credit courses only.
No deadline.
Students who have attended a parochial high school or a Catholic college or university in Illinois for at least one full academic year may be eligible to receive this scholarship. This need-based scholarship may apply to tuition for eligible students enrolling in Ox-Bow courses for credit.
